MORTAL KOMBAT II MOVIE REVIEW

I’ve been obsessed with Mortal Kombat since I was a kid. I still remember the exact day I first played it at my cousin’s house on the Super Nintendo. I honestly couldn’t believe how brutal, bloody, and completely insane it was. It instantly became one of my favorite games, and I even ended up buying the Game Boy version just so I could play it anywhere.

So, as a lifelong fan, how does the new movie hold up?

First things first: if you go into this wanting a deep story and an amazing plot, you are watching the wrong movie. This film was made for people who just want to have fun. Expect pure craziness and plenty of brutal fighting moves.

I was so happy to see the roster expand with characters like Jade, Shao Kahn, and a bunch of others. Karl Urban as Johnny Cage and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana were easily the life of the movie. They brought those characters to life so perfectly that you’re left wanting even more by the time the credits roll. Plus, the ridiculous, back-and-forth jokes between Kano and Johnny Cage were hilarious, I absolutely loved their chemistry.

My only real complaint was Quan Chi. I was really looking forward to seeing him, but his appearance in the movie wound up being a bit of a letdown.

On the technical side, I actually watched this movie three times: in Standard, Dolby, and IMAX. Trust me on this, watching it in IMAX makes a massive difference compared to the other versions. The scale and the action just pop so much more.

The bottom line? Even if you aren’t a fan of the games, you will enjoy this film if you just want to have a good time. Do yourself a favor, head to the theater, and check it out!
