POP PUNK’S STILL NOT DEAD TOUR 2021 COVERAGE 9-4-2021

On September 4th 2021, the early 2000s came calling because The Marquee Theater hosted  New Found Glory, Less Than Jake, Hot Mulligan and LOLO.  The first and last time I saw New Found Glory in concert was during the appearance in The Vans Warped Tour in 2004. It was awesome seeing them back again after seventeen years, and it felt like it was yesterday I saw them.

The opening band was LOLO, a Canadian Indie Pop band, this was my first time hearing about this band. When they started playing, the first thing that came to my mind was Avril Lavigne, and they sounded very similar but with their unique style. The lead singer, LOLO, got the crowd going and told the attendees this was her first time being in Arizona. It was cool to see her wearing an ASU cheerleader outfit as it showed she wanted to connect the audience.  They performed a  really good set of songs including their single “Lonely & Pathetic”, which some people knew it seemed like. I would love to see them again in the future.

The second band was Hot Mulligan, an emo band from Lansing, Michigan, and I also have not heard of them before either.  Their music reminded me of “The Used”. The lead singer was extremely energetic and that got the crowd even more pumped for what was to come ahead.   They performed really well and wish them the best in their future endeavors.

Less Than Jake was the third band to come on stage, and as soon as they started playing their first song the crowd just went crazy. The entire band was extremely energetic moving all over the stage and jumping around singing, even the lead singer/guitar player fell, but he continued like if nothing had happened. This was also my second time seeing the band and they were amazing. The band played some of their best hits like “Johnny Quest Thinks We’re Sellouts” , “The Science of Selling Yourself Short”, “Gainesville Rock City”, and of course they ended their set with “All My Best Friends Are Metalheads”.

Finally it was time for New Found Glory to take the stage and take the entire audience back to the early 2000’s and beyond. As soon as they took the stage everyone started singing their songs and jumping around, and they were also very energetic on stage. Jordan, the lead singer, really took me for a journey back in time with all their hits they performed on this SOLD OUT night at The Marquee Theater. Some of those hits they performed were “Understatement”, “Truth Of My Youth”, “Something I Call Personality”, “Vicious Love”, which LOLO sang with them which was awesome to see. And of course they played “My Friends Over You”.  New Found Glory’s show was truly a “Head On Collision”, and I cannot wait to see them play again.

I would like to Thank BIG PICTURE MEDIA and Becky for letting me cover this amazing show.
